Croft Four

PICTURES COMING SOON!

Welcome to Croft Four - a calm and peaceful retreat nestled within the rugged landscape of the Isle of Skye.

Situated beside the picturesque Loch Mealt on the dramatic Trotternish peninsula, Croft Four offers a tranquil hideaway for couples, looking for a true taste of authentic Skye.

Step inside our beautifully restored cottage, with its thick stone walls, and you’ll be greeted with traditional cottage features that blend effortlessly with modern comforts, and where serene colours and natural materials complement the stunning views.

Croft Four boasts a delightful open plan living, kitchen and dining space downstairs, with a modern shower room and upstairs a king-sized bed with a separate dressing room.

It features stone flooring downstairs, and warm oak upstairs, with a lovely mix of antique and contemporary furniture, along with local artwork and handwoven textiles from nearby Westcoast Weavers. It is decorated and furnished throughout with soft, muted, Skye inspired colours, which we hope will create a calm and serene space for you to truly get away from it all!

At one end of the cottage you’ll find the compact but well-equipped kitchen complete with Bosch appliances - an induction hob, electric oven with grill, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher and Butler’s sink. There’s a good assortment of pans and utensils for you to get creative in the kitchen with, and for those of you who like to relax by rustling up a batch of freshly baked scones or suchlike, you’ll be pleased to know there’s a selection of bakeware. Our crockery is rather special and is hand-made especially for us at the nearby ‘Uig Pottery’. There are environmentally friendly washing up liquid and cleaning products provided, along with a few essentials, such as organic tea and coffee, salt, pepper and oil. (Please note there is no washing machine but there is a launderette at the nearby ‘Staffin Stores’)

In the centre of the room lies the solid oak dining table and chairs, the perfect spot for breakfasts on the go and long leisurely dinners together.

At the other end, the cosy living room area features a lovely wood-burning stove for those cooler evenings and is furnished with woollen tweeds and sumptuous velvets, offering the perfect space to relax and unwind after a day exploring. The sofa is very special, it’s made with only natural ingredients with absolutely nothing in it to harm the environment. With a TV and plenty of books, maps and guides to browse and board games to play, there’s plenty to do if the weather is less than perfect. There’s something magical about being cocooned inside the thick stone walls, with the worst of the Hebridean weather raging outside, with a hot chocolate or a dram in hand!

The shower room completes downstairs, with a spacious shower enclosure, heated towel rail with plenty of fluffy cotton towels, a sink and WC. The luxury organic hand wash and lotions are from Highland Soaps.

Upstairs, the super comfy king-sized bed is furnished with beautiful organic linens and cosy throws. It has an organic, chemical free mattress, to help you get as good a night’s sleep as possible.

There is also a separate dressing room, or for those of you that really need to, it can double as a workspace.

Please note, this is an old property and there is limited headroom upstairs!

Croft Four is situated just off the Ellishadder single track road and offers complete peace and tranquillity. There is a large private garden with furniture, perfect for sitting out and enjoying the view. It’s also a great spot from which to experience ‘dark skies’ at night - wonderful for star gazing or you might even be lucky enough to experience the Northern Lights if you visit in winter.

Croft Four is on a working croft (a term used in the Scottish Highlands and Islands to refer to a small-scale plot of farmland), and you might see us every now and again seeing to our beautiful Herdwick sheep or working in the Polycrub. You’re more than welcome to help feed the sheep if you happen to be around and in season there are usually various salads available for you if you wish, from the Polycrub. (all grown to organic standards)

Croft Four is only a short walk from the infamous Kilt Rock and a 15-minute car journey will take you to the Old Man of Storr in one direction or the Quiraing in the other. Staffin, the nearest village is a 5-minute drive away, where you can find a couple of well stocked village shops, two cafes, a Post Office and Staffin beach - complete with dinosaur footprints! A scenic 30-minute drive south will take you to the island’s main town, Portree, a photographer’s delight with multicoloured houses along the harbour. Here you’ll find a larger variety of shops, cafes and restaurants and a supermarket.

As much as we love them, we apologise but we sadly can’t accept dogs.
